Investikudos Rant: Why Kristen should never apologize for intelligence

"Your little persona is made up of all the places that people have seen you and what has been said about you and usually the places that I am are so overwhelming in the moment and fleeting for me - like one second where I've said something stupid, that's me forever. What you don't see are the cameras shoved in my face, and the bizarre intrusive questions being asked, or the people falling over themselves, screaming and taunting to get a reaction. All you see is an actor or a celebrity being lit up by a flash. It's so...." [she searches for the right word] "The photos are so... I feel like I am looking at someone being raped. A lot of the time I can't handle it. It's f**cked."
Kristen in Elle UK, July edition 2010

#Rape, definition

1 : an act or instance of robbing or despoiling or carrying away a person by force
2 : unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will usually of a female or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent — compare sexual assault, statutory rape
3 : an outrageous violation

When you're an actor, part of one of the biggest franchises in the world, you are being scrutinized at every chance people get, because they relish in the idea of bringing someone down who is part of a phenomenon so extremely popular. Envy and jealousy make people become immune to compassion, to understanding when you're famous, because you seemingly have it all and therefore no longer need your fellow human's respect.

Kristen Stewart is not a celebrity. She is an actress. The two are easily misused, compared, used interchangeably and dismissed whenever the true difference comes up.

It's shocking to little brains, that when you are an actress, you can actually detest fame and separate it from the thing you actually do, namely acting. Not to mention the fact you enjoy said acting without being in the spotlight.

Just because you're a well-known person across the world doesn't mean you consider yourself a celebrity nor it is justified to assume you should be treated as one because it's the Hollywood norm.

The Hollywood norm is stagnant: if you are well known, you are a celebrity, no matter how hard you protest and tell people otherwise. The Human norm is even worse: if you have made it big in Hollywood you are then Hollywood property and you dare not complain, explain or deny you are part of the hoopla. If you do, you get burned, because common sense and respect are no longer part of the courtesy people extend you.

Kristen Stewart gets burned often. Because she is not the norm. Because she doesn't sell out. Because she doesn't play the Hollywood game.

She gets burned because media outlets feel justified to burn her and seek her out on her harsh words on the Hollywood dynamic with paparazzi and gossip continuingly shoved in her face.

She is an easy target to be violated. Verbally, perhaps sometimes even physically, but definitely emotionally with being called so many ugly words almost daily. It would make us 'regular' folk press charges for defaming in an instant if it happened to us. Kristen Stewart, unfortunately doesn't have the liberty to do so, because it would make things worse rather than gain her the respect she deserves as a human.

So when Kristen Stewart tells you she feels like fame is watching someone being raped she is actually correct. Because unless you enjoy being called every nasty word in the book, just because your face is plastering magazines and you are well known and yet you don't want to be and never asked to be a celebrity, than you are being outrageously violated very often. Which is one of the definitions of being raped.

But because it's a major Hollywood faux pas to use a word such as 'rape' in the context she made it in, disregarding the fact she used it correctly, Kristen Stewart now has to apologize because people can't bear it when someone speaks out against the hand they never asked to feed them.

It's a world turned upside down. If she has to apologize for explaining something in a articulate and correct context, she also has a buttload of apologies coming, from the people who outrageously violate her almost daily.

Somehow we doubt they are standing in line to do so.

Disclaimer: this is all opinion.

** Never did Kristen herself mention SHE was being raped. She just feels like that's what it feels/looks like when describing what actors or celebrities go through being verbally, emotionally and sometimes even physically violated.

  1. I dont normally comment on RI, I totally agree with your words, thanks Bronze. I have watched over the last year how Kristen and Rob's privacy has been violated on numerous occasions and I totally understood what she meant and in which context. Everything she says or does is scrutinised and dissected and no one should be put through that. Although no one should also ever be afraid to apologise, she owes no one an apology now or ever for feeling that way. Sarah

  4. What can we do? I feel so, I can't even express how I feel about Kristin being made to apologize for her word choice. If she felt "rape" was the appropriate word than it was. I have heard and seen what the pappzs have done to her and also Rob and I think they should be the ones to apologize not her. What can I do Bronze?

  5. *applauds*

Clear, coherent and rational response to the circus stirred up because something Kristen said was taken out of context and twisted beyond recognition.

And people wonder why Kristen and Rob won't come clean about whether or not they're together. I don't even want to fathom the feeding frenzy that would ensue. Piranha and sharks have nothing on Hollywood gossip mongers when they think they see a juicy and/or salacious story. I don't even want to imagine what the headlines and covers would be like if they did finally confirm their relationship and it would be twisted and examined and shredded considering what is done to them now.
